I never think of using the avatar prizes...and with 10 more slots (if gobbie bag items are easy to farm or become cheap) then you have more room for carrying them around.
p.s. your gear combination at the bottom makes me giggle...
hey, it's even color-coordinated... Since Monk hasn't been getting much in terms of new gear we have to be more creative with what we already got. Btw one interesting thing I noticed is that both Shiva's claws and Vampiric claws are useable by Dancer...
Yeah. I mentioned the other two because they were the topic of the entry. I guess destroyers being usable by Dancer might be a bit of a slap in the face to PUP though, as monk I don't mind, after all even PLD RDM and RNG can already use it =P It's like how dune boots are usable by a bunch of jobs that can't kick at all. We'll see if dancer can make good use of them or has something weird like no H2H skill of its own.
Looking for few good monkskiineNovember 30 2007, 15:08:37 UTC
Hi again, Genome.
It's Kiine from Ragnarok again. Anyhow, I've been doing some monk numbertheory again, and I have probably bitten off more than I can chew. So, I'm coming here as the metaphorical "Inn/Tavern before the Adventure" in terms of finding a few good monks. I'm going to cross post to Alla-K's monk forum as well, but this was the first place in my mind.
Anyhow, I guess this is a pretty much a PM to you, since you're able to screen this, but please hop on over to:
You can see how I would need some assistance, and I would like to use your LJ as a good clearing house of things Monk. I would hope monk readers of your site would be genuine enough to tackle such a project with earnest effort rather than trying to achieve bogus numbers in an effort to make themselves look good. So... what do you say?

The formula on wiki is incorrect, but I think the only part that is wrong is the exact upper and lower bounds. I think this might have been derived at a much earlier time when maybe those were the actual bounds (maybe before the NA release), and chiblast was probably adjusted since then. But the general idea seems correct, so the only thing left is to find the correct numbers. I can tell you for sure those numbers are wrong, and I can tell you for sure the correct number for the upper bound at the maximum of 12 boosts (as you know the first one is "free" in terms of timer) with AF gloves, because everyone, me included, always takes screenshots of their best chi, so the sample size for that is already huge and points to the same number each time. The right number for that case (AF1, max damage, 12boosts) is MND * (#boosts*0.75 + 1), or MND*(12*0.75+1)= MND*10I have many screenshots showing this, and nobody has ever been able to go above this number (they increased their MND with BRDs and 2hrs, but still got at most their total MND*10
( ... )
Keep up the great work.fuman_ffxiMay 8 2008, 14:59:18 UTC
Hiya Genome. I've been a reader for a long time and I really look forward to your entries. I just wanted to say I really appreciate the nice work you've done on keeping us monks (and other jobs too) informed on what is possible to achieve out there.
Are you ever planning on getting your Relic weapon fully upgraded? I've seen you say that you've accomplished nearly everything you wanted to do in game. I was just wondering where you stood on that.
At any rate thanks for the good info you've been giving the ffxi community for so long.

Thanks.
Relic always seemed way too much work for something that wasn't really all that much better than normal gear (a different additional effect instead of subtle blow would have been nicer, although the rare occasional triple damage and extra counter are nice). Also I play so little these days, I often just make myself log in every 5-7 days for something like a campaign promotion (just in case they ever add something actually useful for monk in the rewards) or maybe an occasional salvage or ENM, but never long enough to justify setting up a group for things like dynamis runs, salvage, nyzul etc. I still enjoy trying out new things occasionally and on my own time, but not anything that would require a dedicated long-term commitment at this point.
