I'm 'a smilin' about this one, just like I was when you first published it. Much like the Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic strip about chosing a new king, in which someone suggested something which sounded suspiciously like Crown Tourney, but was met with incredulity. :)

In a highly technical urban environment there is little opportunity to practice any form of the equestrian arts. Though I suspect that Asher may be starting to miss even those long rides in the rain he used to make on occasion.

& I do wonder how well even a mediocre knight transplanted into an SCA tourney would do.

I was so sure Asher was going to end up going back to Earth/france, first time around.

yeah, I figured there was a lot of "no, you've got that all wrong, they do it THIS way!" packed in there. ;)

Of course, an alien re-enactment society wouldn't necessarily be re-enacting anything from Earth...

Now if they had societies which were based on re-enactments of garbled hundred-year-old field reports of the last time someone had been to a particular corner of a particular backwater world...

I think it might be more that Asher's war training means he's entirely comfortable taking opportunities and openings that might be considered unchivalrous by the re-enactors. Like releasing bees against people in suits of armor. Or shield-bashing and going for the legs.

And more than a few dirty tricks on top of those. Possibly with small amounts of explosives.
