As one of Sir Garard's sons was shown as inheriting the estate, it was clear the Good Knight had somehow died within the flash-forward's time line, so the question was "how"?

It is a good question, but I assumed by default that Gerard died later than the "ten years later" that was cited for Asher and Neithe, since other characters (like Christine) got more than ten years' worth of flash-forward.

Still, it would be nioe to know. Battle? Fatal illness? "One last joust for old time's sake" too many? Or just a happy old age surounded by grand children?

But Gerard would be a very dangerous fish out of water & probably have no serious interest in seeing more of the stars than he already has. He has, after all, met some of the more aggressive people which the galaxy has to offer, & found them to be wimps.

Only one-on-one and (for them) unarmed. For him, a more accurate take might be "Most of us go unarmed because we can build siege weapons that annihilate worlds, and personal armaments which can kill armies a week's march away in a heartbeat."
