I've been doing some thinking about what I want to do with my life.  It's pretty horrifying, but also really exciting.  Mostly horrifying though.  I've been asking people what they think and they usually tell me to do whatever they're doing or whatever they wish they had done.  After looking for a while at the US Department of Labor's Occupation Read more... )

Nursing?! No... I don't see you as a nurse. Seriously. Plus the pay ain't so great. I'm sure nurses are wonderful people, but I think your talents would probably wasted. Don't do it ( ... )

That's 3 people, all who know me pretty well, who say that they don't see me as a nurse. Should that tell me something or should I just disregard what others say? I think the pay for nurses is decent, it's just hard work. Making beds, sticking needles in people, cleaning poo apparently.

UB's library science has conditional accreditation (sp?). Which means that it's probably on its way out. How did yo know about that?

AHH I don't know!!! Geology sounds exciting, but what if I get into that and figure out I don't want to do it? This is looking pretty expensive.

so um, definitely do not go into nursing. that is not you at all.

i could see you doing something in library science, but i don't think you'd really be all that happy.

park ranger= your future career. embrace it. actually though, i think environmental studies/geology/geoscience will be good because 1) you seemed to like it (although maybe not so much now?) and 2) people are mad concerned about the ending of the world/SAVE THE EARTH! so having some kind of background into that stuff might be useful? but seriously i don't know what i'm talking about.

try psychology. for real. lol.

Why do I not have the makings of a nurse? WHY KATE?

Why wouldn't I be happy in Library Science?

GIVE ME ANSWERS MAN!

Do you really see me as a park ranger? I'm actually kind of wimpy. I'll never really be the burly mountain man type... I can only pretend.

OMG, don't do psychology. When I graduated, something like 800 or 1,000 people were psych majors!

I agree with Kate, I can't really picture you as a nurse, albeit very practical, so that would be reason enough for me, lol. And you can go anywhere with that, plus the pay is pretty good, and only getting better because of the labor shortage. Also, if you want to have babies, they'll always take you back and/or part time. Butttt it is stressful and some crazy hours ( ... )

Your two cents is always helpful. I kind of wish you and Kate were still around to express my anxiety-ridden thoughts to. Well, there will be plenty of that to come next year unless I decide to drop out and join the teamsters.

If your mom is tired of that crap she should go be a college librarian. Although I'm pretty sure the librarians at UB still do a lot of helping people with repetitive boring questions about search engines and the LOC system. A lot of the librarians just play solitaire all day (I'm not kidding).

You should go into Accounting, I hear they let just about anyone do it, like you don't even need to possess any special skills

But yeah, you just gotta do what makes you happy. Whether it's library science, or theater, or even something as much of a joke as Media Study. Like that song says, Don't Worry, Be Happy. You'll find what suits you the best some way

I ruled out Accounting long ago. That major is such a joke. Like the world even needs Accounting.

I appreciate your encouragement, but ultimately I don't think I'll be happy until I figure this shit out!

Have you ever considered pharmacy? You would always have a job, and would have less to do with poo.

Eh, it's not really my cup of tea. Plus it takes sooo long to get that degree!
