That was my initial reaction, and I'm still pretty pissed about it today, so I think I might call next week and see whether I can see someone else. There are four other doctors in the practice, so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Thank you, bb. ♥
Look, I've never had a baby but I've been in and out of doctors offices so often in the last six years that I've learned a few things - and one of the big ones is that if you don't feel comfortable with a doctor, whether the reasons are real or imagined, you shouldn't be seeing them (unless its a Dr. House situation and they are literally the only one who can help you). If you have options, and your insurance will cover someone else? FOR GODS SAKE GET AWAY FROM HER.
Her racism and classism are probably real. I can't tell you about the race stuff but speaking as the child of a doctor, they tend to have class issues. I know for a fact my father does, and so do most of his doctor friends. It's repulsive and infectious but it's REAL.
Even if its not, this is your first child. You deserve to have this go well, to be joyful and comfortable and safe. She OBVIOUSLY doesnt do that for you. As Dan Savage would say, DTMFA - dump the motherfucker already.
Sensible advice, that. The only doctor I've ever really seen on a regular basis is my dermatologist for psoriasis and mole issues, and I love her, so running into a doctor I'm REALLY not crazy about is new for me. But you make a good point in saying that this should be a good time for me, and I really shouldn't have to worry that someone isn't going to do their utmost to care for me and my child because she doesn't like the fact that the father of my child isn't white.

You should definitely try to get another obstetrician. During your pregnancy is not a time you should be made to feel uncomfortable by anyone, not least by the person who is supposed to be helping you out. Whatever her own prejudices are, she should at least be professional or she shouldn't be a doctor. Find someone you like, or at least respect and ignore the idiot woman. ♥

Other have said as much, but you should absolutely ask for another obstetrician. Having a doctor you feel comfortable is so very important, especially since you're trusting her with not only your health but that of your child's.
I'm generally not one to complain, and I don't need to be BFFs with my OB or anything, but I really do feel like her behavior, no matter the motivation behind it, was totally out of line. I don't like that I feel like I can't be 100% sure that she's giving me the best care possible,so I think maybe trying to see someone else in the practice would be best. Thank you!
