Today, I had a very lovely father's day. I know it's not actually father's day but then I don't have a father either. I do have a mother I'm very fond of and we spent the day running amok. Today I took myself out to lunch to this little restaurant near campus that does really great Southern cuisine with all fresh, all locally sourced food. It's my favorite restaurant. I went specifically for the fried green tomatoes but got a Caesar salad, too, and about a gallon of sweet tea because it was just absolutely perfect ( Read more... ) -

My vague illness of last weekend finally manifested itself properly and I ended up having to go to the doctor, which sucks. I'm still paying off the doctor bills from last year so was trying to stay healthy this year. Not that it wasn't a goal last year, too, but you know. Antibiotics for ten days and then another doctor's visit. I'm going to have ( Read more... ) -

May already. I was vaguely ill this weekend, nothing particularly wrong, I suppose, but I was rather listless so almost nothing got done, and what did get done was done very poorly. New music day. I was listening to a podcast during work (NPR's Fresh Air) and heard Pokey LaForge for the first time. He's a blues revivalist. His sound reminds me of Leon Redbone but I think that's mostly because that's an artist I grew up with, a favorite of my mom's, and I've only recently dived into music from the 30s so I don't have the ( Read more... ) -

I listen to a lot of podcasts at work and finally succumbed to audibles.com (which sponsors quite a few of them). Does anyone else use that? Like it? Hate it? Indifferent? I started listening to Cheryl Stayed's Wild this afternoon, the first chapter of which I found to be quite gutting. I haven't seen the movie or read the book, and chose it only ( Read more... ) -

I went to Washington, D.C. this weekend and had a really lovely time. I mean, seriously, a wonderful time. I purposefully (and successfully) didn't think about work at all, and became all happy and rested and then bubbled up with hope and delight and plans and ideas.
