Oh, look! A post!

I spent the better part of an hour in Special Collections today, playing with 200-year old (partially hand-colored) copies of A Course of Lectures on Natural Philosophy and the Mechanical Arts by Thomas Young. Afterwards, I looked up reprint editions to see if I could check one out of the library system; having access to bi-centenarian books is ( Read more... )

Thanks! Sadly, I'm not done yet, but I'm at the cut-bait phase; anything I can do at lunch today gets done. Everything else will just have to wait.

(After 2.5 hours of sleep, I'm not feeling the paper love.)

What fun!

I mean, 200-year-old books roxxor! And I shelled out prohibitive amounts of cash to get faximilies of medieval books that I'm not exactly doing legitimate research from!

Go kick some thesis ass!

Yeah, I love old books. I decided yesterday that if I were going to be a librarian, I'd want to be a special collections librarian. Archival work is a pain in the butt, but it's so cool to work with original materials!!

(Actually I forgot to mention the coolest part of my visit yesterday: Sue let me hold one of their incunabula; it was over FIVE HUNDRED years old.)

And thank you! Right now it's winning, but after my presentation this morning I'll regroup and fight back. ;)

Yay for old books!

I have the utmost confidence in you. You are doing an amazing job. It should be noted that working full time while completing graduate level work is a feat that is treacherous from even the most intrepid individual.

While the thesis may be winning at the moment, you will slay that dragon posthaste. Indeed, you shall be singed and a bit toasty at the end but, oh how we will celebrate your fortitude when all is said and done.

You should be proud of yourself. Keep it up!!!
