  • I had a total science fangirl moment this morning: After learning that it was commissioned by the Michelson-Morley Centennial Celebration to commemorate the famed experiment, I just had to play Philip Glass's The Light on my show. I think I may also ( Read more... )

I loved listening to the Light on the way to work the other day! I'd not heard it before, but it's so cool to hear something new and instantly know (and love) the person who made it.

*laughs* It was so very, very Philip Glass. I think I may have to buy the album (Heroes Symphony/ The Light); it encapsulated everything I enjoy about his work in one easy package! And it has science nerd bonus points...

I'm glad you liked it!

now I'm remembering the drive in to work Wednesday and Brian saying "Wait. This is Phillip Glass." And I was like "huh? I've not heard this before." And then your beautiful voice confirming that, yes, my husband is that much of a music geek. :)

An I loooooooooovees the "Hurt". It makes me shiver in good ways. :)

If you know (and like) Philip Glass's stylistic tendencies, I think that he can be easy to recognize. You do have to be something of a music geek to do it, but I think that probably describes most of us here... ;-)

(You made me *blush* with the "beautiful voice" part.)

And yeah, "Hurt" is such an amazing rendition of the song...

The first time I heard "Hurt" was actually in the form of the video for the song. I remember thinking that Johnny looked frail, and sounded it a bit. And the look in June's eyes told us that he wasn't long for this world. The song was haunting in a way that I can't capture with words. I don't remember goosebumps; but tears, definitely.

The first time I heard "Hurt" was on the radio sometime between June Carter's death and Johnny Cash's. It was devastating.

Yesterday, it gave me goosebumps. Today it could probably make me cry.
