The artwork is amazing! I think I'm a horror fan because of it. It's definitely why I'm a Tim Burton fan. It's beautiful for all the horrific content and I just can't stop looking.

Wow, that art is REALLY creepy!

Meanwhile, one of Thomas' choices for Halloween costume this year is "scary clown with blood dripping from his eyes." I think of you ever time we talk about it.

The artwork is just still fascinating to me. I spent a couple hours last night going through it.

I used to love those books when I was a kid. Though I think they kind of scared me for life. IIRC there was a story in one of them about the girl who thought her dog was licking her hand from under her bed but it turned out to a killer ala a scene from When A Stranger Calls. It scared the crap out of me. As did the one where the girl who had spiders hatching FROM HER SKIN.

My friends and I used to take turns reading the stories out loud during slumber parties.

Man, I haven't thought about those books in years!

The Licked Hand is one of the ones I want to cover. I started out very VERY light - but I'm hoping to explore horror fandom a bit. Basically I keep seeing posts about the "violence and sexism" in the show - and I'm hoping to bridge that gap a little.

'cause really - saying horror is about violence or sexism is kinda like saying Wincest is about incest. It's not something that can be easily discussed with outsiders. And I don't like thinking of fellow fans as outsiders.

I LOVED those books, but the artwork scarred me for life. I would try and cover the art while I was reading, but it never worked. And then I couldn't sleep. But I was addicted to the stories, so I refused to get rid of them. Those pictures still give me the creeps.

I completely agree. I spent a couple hours last night looking through them and, even now, they gave me weird dreams!
