I went to the Swing Summit dance in White Rock and danced for an hour with the leads from Abbotsford that I'm used to and new people hadn't arrived yet so I couldn't have danced with them. But! Alchohol effects the mind and body. The effects to the mind are what changes dancing the most. Most people have enough control over their mind, that if they try, they can simulate those same effects without alchohol. I'm not saying that having 1 beer is bad and that hell will open up and swallow you if you drink and dance, but a good goal would be to find a way to dance spectacularly without a beer. Oh, and remember, beer means take breath mints too :-P

We used to have to give some of our best Blues follows a touch of alcohol before dancing to get them to relax and stop being so nervous. I always made them think we were giving them far more alcohol than we were, and when they figured it out, they realized they didn't need the alcohol. Alcohol can be a useful tool if one remembers it is a tool to be used and not a toy to be played with.

I wish I could get you into some truly high energy dances like we used to always have. The environment alone does far more for your dancing than the alcohol. Try to make it to some of the social dancing at Camp Jitterbug. That will do wonders for you.
