Thank you very very much. Does having shorter fingers make playing the clarinet difficult, or does it suit your hand-span/finger-length?

nah, I don't see it as a problem, not with the Bb clarinet, I've played the bass clarinet, then it was a problem :P
I forgot to log in before :P

1. How many instruments do you play? Two. Folk (Lever) harp and pedal harp. (They really are two different instruments.)

2. Which instrument do you consider your principal instrument? Folk harp.

3. How many years have you played the instrument(s) listed in question 2? 15 years.

4. Name a piece you are currently working on. Milonga para amar by Alfredo Rolando Ortiz and Waulking O' The Fauld arranged by Kim Robertson.

5. Please splay your hand such that your thumb and pinky finger are as far apart as possible. Measure the length from the tip of the thumb to the pinky using a ruler and write down this
measurement. You may answer in inches, but centimetres is preferred. 21.5cm.

8. My fingers are LONG for a female of my stature (5'6"). I have very little webbing between them when I am playing on a regular basis, which tends to extend my reach even further at times. Currently, I can reach a 14th on my lever harp with either hand. Should be about the same on the pedal harp.

10. No

Thanks so much, sorry I haven't replied earlier. Does the long hand-span affect your ability to play the harp, for better or for worse, compared to others of shorter hand spans?

I have minor trouble with repeated arpeggio sequences that fall within the same octave at times (I'm a bit cramped for space), but mostly the hand-span is a bonus, Most of the music is composed/arranged by men, so I have the equivalent reach.

Thanks so much! That's a really interesting point about archery & the elbow-- definitely noteworthy and will certainly add to what I've got so far.
