I would be cautious about buying to fill the space and not get carried away week one.

oh don't worry, I have tons of space to fill.

also, so far I've just been buying essentials; bathroom and kitchen necessities mostly.

Mattress warehouse is a LOT better price wise than mattress discounters. and the SYMBOL brand is inexpensive, but decent.

Both of them seemed about the same price wise when I went in. I will probably wind up going with something from mattress warehouse though.

Apparently, when my dad recently bought their new mattress he haggled with the sales guy. I don't remember where they bought it, only that it is awesome and they have 18 months no interest.

Yeah, mattress sales people seem to me to be kind of like car dealers. When I went around my first time checking out prices they all seemed to give me the price, and when they saw I was hesitant, they dropped what they were asking.

2 years is a long time, don't start worry about this kind of thing until 2 months, or even 2 weeks, before you're going to move.

Your apartment is bigger than my townhouse. We only have 990 square feet.

On furniture, have you considered Goodwill or the Salvation Army or Craigslist? We've got some pretty good stuff second hand that way. I would never buy a used mattress, though. IKEA also has probably the best prices you'll find for new furniture.

If you can sleep on the futon for a while, you might wait for a sale on the mattress. A couple of times a year, most bed stores have mega sales where you can get a decent bed for $700. Or you could always go the minimalist/Asian way and have just a mattress on the floor instead of buying a whole bed set.

I'm pretty good for furniture now, I hit up Ikea earlier, and if you find the stuff they have on sale they're incredibly cheap ($100 for a table + 4 chairs)

I eat on the floor, samurai style.

I hope you mean that you eat while sitting on the floor, rather than eating food that is on the floor.
