Is there ever, really, such a thing as enough play/social time?  Can us human beings ever get enough play time, or are we somehow hard-wired to perpetually long for more?  If it's the latter, then that would be a relief, b/c it'd be something that could be easily blown off.

I would say the latter.

I'm still leaning towards the latter, too.

We tend to get serious about our play, given the opportunity - turning it into projects that can become very work-like.
