The movie of choice was Thomas the Tank Engine. It was either that or Dr. Mabuse's TestamentThe music was tango. I've been promised Chinese opera for tomorrow ( Read more... )

I think it is unbelievable rude to going to other country to live and expect everyone to speak my language! I think I would try learning that language before I left the "homeland"...

I would love to learn German and Japanese.

I also think it is rude when americans say (about others) "if they LIVE here they should at LEAST speak our language" when 'they' are chatting with each other! Maybe they are talking about how fucking RUDE you are!

Living close to a military base we have Spanish, Japanese, German, Russian and Korean... that I know of. And other thing that annoys me is "maybe we should tell them they lost the war and to try speaking english"... right. [/rant]

*smooches you back*

I know it doesn't count, but I can let least SPELL "fuck off" in swedish...

*grins, thanks babe*

I also LOVE my American flist and know some lovely American people, but so many Americans just assume that the entire world should speak English. One of the people I work with has been living in Germany for years and refuses to learn German. How presumptious.

I am crap at languages, but I always try to learn a bit of the language of the country in which I am posted. If I moved permanently to a country though, I would take lessons to ensure that I quickly was able to speak the language to a decent standard.

You should insist in speaking in Swedish in front of this female....

*hugs you*

We do speak Swedish- it makes her even grumpier than usual. I fear that I will lost it soon with her, and ask if there is anything in the world that she actually likes.

Hey, if you're going to live in a country, you should most certainly speak the language. Of course, here we've got a huge thing with our imigration problems... there are huge areas where you must be able to speak spanish to get by... and they seem to see no need to speak english, instead all our official documents, as well as any call centers, are readily avalible in spanish.

Anyway... maybe if everyone started a Sweedish only policy around her, she'd either go away or get with it and learn sweedish? ;-)

Most of us do speak Swedish to her now- she understands pretty well, I think. But she never speaks Swedish.

I think it's a huge handicap if you can't speak the native language of the country you live in. To have a good language is a power source, which many seems unaware of.
