So, apparently there are homophobic agents? Or notThe thing is, I recently had to un-subscribe from the Shakesville RSS feed because it was exhausting being so righteously angry all the time. There's nowhere to go with the anger that I get after reading a lot of Shakesville articles. There's no way to make the GOP stop their class-war-inducing, ( Read more... )

I am full of delight because I have birthday presents and Jacqueline Carey and tomorrow is my birfday party. Still trying to solve the mystery of whether my new freelance boss is a scammer. XD

Thanks, hon! That's what I have to keep telling myself. This is just a stage. A hopefully short stage.

Hahahahaha. OMG. I know, right? I don't want to be bitchy, but Shakesville oscillates from: BE ANGRY ABOUT THIS THING YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER to isn't my new dog adorable?

Yay, you rescued a dog from the pound. I, too, did that. And I don't even like looking at my dog that much.

Didn't they used to post a variety of cute-pets? Like, other people's as well?

I only melt for kittens and small puppies. Full size dogs I don't find "cute" at all. :( No daily dose of cute for me!

Cleolinda did a good, balanced roundup of that gay-in-YA kerfuffle and the fact that just because there was miscommunication doesn't mean it hasn't exposed a real issue when it comes to comments left by other people in the industry.

I'm reading The Beauty Myth at the moment and I am TAKING A BREAK from my righteous anger before I keep going. You're right, it can be very tiring.

I hope things improve for you <3

Yes, absolutely there's an issue with representation. Even just looking at basic numbers - the number of YA novels with major (not even main, just major) gay characters is very low compared to cis, straight characters.

I think it's more that this was presented in such a way designed to outrage - the same way I'm realizing I get a lot of my news. Which is... ok, yes. It's outrageous.

For me, though, it was this realization that here I'm reading about this outrageous thing and I don't have the energy to be outraged. I am not outraged by it because I'm desensitized essentially.

I had to stop reading Shakesville a while back, it's exhausting and I got a little tired of their take on pop culture issues, which has taken the "if there is anything problematic about this at all then it is 100% terrible and shouldn't exist and what's wrong with you if you like it" tack, and I would rather have grown-up discussions about what's wrong with my fandoms than get shamed for watching any TV show that's not Lost. I'm a little sick of the "Third Term of George W Bush" meme, too.

I'm so sorry about the job search and I hope you find something soon; being unemployed is so dispiriting and I'm sorry you're going through that.

YES. I think that her constant hate of Obama just makes me sad. Yes, he's not perfect, but I like him, ok? I get enough trash talking of him from conservative pundits. :/
