An Apology to Dollhouse

Apr 11, 2009 20:39

Anyone who has seen my journal or has read my comments in here will know that I've been disappointed with DOLLHOUSE. I have never hated it, and have enjoyed the episodes in general, however after the initial elation of a new show from the god that is Joss, I found the episodes to be repetitve and unfulfiling ( Read more... )

I just watched the new episode, and I totally agree about the Mellie/Paul scene...it was heartbreaking and just blew me away. And I was so conflicted during the Echo/Dominic fight too! Halfway through I went, "Why am I rooting for Echo? Dominic is suddenly a good guy!"

Lol!! I was the same! Yay! for Echo, but then you realise that Paul's lost his inside link to the dollhouse :-( I'm so conflicted! lol!!

I also forgot to mention how much I loved the Echo/Boyd scenes!! It's nice to see their chemistry back again.

however the next episode ECHOES, felt like Dollhouse was trying to run before it crawled and the humor felt forced to me. Echo's backstory also irritated me as surely the show's lead character would have a more interesting story than being an animal activist?

At first I thought the same as you regarding the humor, however after rewatching it it's become a favorite factor of the show. The lightheartedness at the most inappropriate of times is kinda interesting, considering that this show isn't supposed to have all the wackiness as other Joss projects. Caroline being an activist I think is interesting because she's a comination of an animals and humans rights activist, and while we do sense that she's more idealistic than realistic I think with the added combination of Echo and Caroline she could do some intereting stuff in the future, if they go in that direction.

This is what angered me about the show. For the characters to go through so much, only for any repercussions to be wiped away along with the imprint.Although it had been ( ... )

I re-watched Man of the Street, Echoes and Needs over the last week and the humor in Echoes did indeed grow on me (Adelle and Topher in particular) however, I don't think it served any purpose and didn't push forward the show, which when you have only 13 episodes, every one of them has to count.

Learning Echo's backstory should have been hugely important, but for me I found it kinda blah, maybe that's because there is still a lot more that we need to learn though. I love how Echo is evolving and also how with this episode, she was allowed to do so without being wiped - hurrah!! My pet peeve of the show has stopped! :-)

I'm a huge Joss Whedon and Eliza fan, and knew that I would never hate this show, and I never did. I was upset during the first few eps when people were not impressed and ended up defending it quite a lot. But after a while I had to admit that this wasn't Whedon's greatest work. However, now I think he's turned it around with the latest episode and I'm pretty sure that I'll start defending it again haha!!

Lol! It's sad that we live in a world where reality tv shows rule and anything that makes you think has the fear of cancellation looming over it. :-(

What I hate is that my viewing doesn't help the ratings... I have to stream it online as I'm not in the US so the Fox chiefs don't know that I'm watching and enjoying!

This was my favourite episode so far... with quality echo/boyd moments :-)

grrrr!! why doesn't Fox realise that ratings mean nothing nowadays.

I doubt we will get another season, and it seems that Joss feels the same way :-(. I just hope that they finish this one off well.

*not reading most of this post because I haven't watched it yet*

I got home about 30 minutes into it, started watching from the middle...saw Adelle KISSING VICTOR...about choked on my taco and after a couple of minutes decided to turn it off so that I could watch the whole thing from the beginning because I didn't want the ending to spoil me as to how/why in the hell it appeared that Adelle had gone crazy. lol So, I still haven't watched it but I dl'd it just a few minutes ago. Glad you liked it, it's good to see you not on the fence anymore!

(hugs)

I don't know. These last two episodes have left me feeling kinda...blah. lol Isn't that funny since this was your favorite? I loved it when we discovered that November was a sleeper agent in a previous episode ( ... )
