Date/Time: Thursday, August 15, 1996 Characters: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley Location: The Burrow Rating: G, mild PG Warnings: More of the "shutup and shag already" outbursts.
Ron, who had been doing the same thing (flipping through a Quidditch magazine) for hours now out of insane boredom, literally jumped off the couch at the sound of the knock. He hoped it was either Harry or Hermione finally arriving and saving him from what was provig to be the most boring holiday he'd had in a while.
His family was out for the afternoon. They had left early in the morning for who knows where while Ron had still been sleeping and so he was at the Burrow by himself.
Jogging over to the door, Ron opened it quickly and broke out in a large grin when he saw who it was. "Hermione, finally!" He exclaimed and then realized her parents were beside her and blushed. "Er... hello Mr. and Mrs. Granger."
Hermione broke into a grin from behind her parents. Mr. Granger stuck out a rather large hand. "Paul Granger." he said importantly. "I believe I've seen you before." he flashed a white, toothy grin at the blushing lad. "and this is my wife, Jane." Hermione's parents were the epitome of plain in every way shape and form. Hermione kept her eye contact with Ron, still rather red, hoping that this would be over soon. She shuffled her feet a moment, looking about awkwardly.
Mr Granger gave a look to Hermione, then back to Ron. "So your parents aren't home, then?" he smiled, as his wife pulled at the hand of her husband. "right." he started. "it was a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Weasley." he gave him a nod, and Hermione smiled, moving through them as they faced her. Leaning in to give her daughter a kiss on the cheek, she muttered in her ear, "now, be good dear, and remember to keep in touch." Hermione blushed. "Don't worry mother, I will." And her parents headed back to the car. Hermione grinned at Ron. "Sorry."
Ron was so surprised by the hug that he barely remembered to lift his arms and hug her back. Wrapping his arms delicately around her waist, he hugged her gently, whispering a soft, "I missed you, too, 'Mione."
Ron was so wrapped up in the hug that he didn't notice when the front door opened and footsteps could be heard through the house.
"Aw, would you look at that George? Isn't that sweet?"
"'Tis my dear brother. Ickle Ronnikins is growing up right in front of our eyes!"
Ron blushed, pulling away from Hermione. "Oi, shut it, you two." He said to them, embarrassed.
Hermione blushed, furiously. "He's doing no growing up at all, boys." she snapped, pulling away from the boy quite sharply. "And if you don't behave, you won't get the presents I bought." she smiled, as if the whole situation were rather amusing, though inside, she was kicking herself. She nodded to each of them, still scarlet in the cheeks. "I think I may start with the unpacking." she nodded hastily, as if confirming this to herself.
It was then that the rest of Ron's family decided to trudge into the kitchen.
"Oh, Hermione dear, hello! I see you've finally joined us. Nice to see you." Mrs. Weasley said with smile, walking over to the counter and unloading bags of groceries. "When did she arrive, Ron?"
"Er, about a half hour or so ago, Mum." Ron replied, feeling the blush on his cheeks starting to fade.
"Hermione! Finally another girl to talk to!" Ginny smiled as she bounced into the kitchen and made her way over to Hermione to hug her hello.
She hugged Ginny tight, managing to allow her face to return to a rather normal shade. "Ginny, how lovely to see you" she smiled, before moving over to Mrs Weasley and greeting her with a peck on the cheek. She looked around the room at the rest of the family, before stretching herself a little. "Well, I must head upstairs and unpack." she remarked, almost sheepishly.; She'd never felt embarrased in the presence of Ron's family before, but now she had the distinct need to remove herself from the room. She headed upstairs, now blushing furiously again.

"I'd invite you in for er... tea or something but it's only me here and I'm afraid I'm not all that interesting."
