Sometimes It Goes the Other Way

Jack swallowed his pride like a shot of battery acid and kept it down long enough to take L. D.’s money.  He needed it.  Last bull of his rodeo career launched him high, but not quite into orbit and didn’t take it kindly when he landed under its nose.  Left a crater Jack couldn’t climb out of without a helping hand, hospital bills being what ( Read more... )

'way up north, north to Alaska' rdg64 October 17 2007, 17:11:08 UTC
Go, Jack, go. As always in this amazing tale, each sentence packs a punch and a whole bunch of plot. It's wonderful how you do that! Jack has sure realized his mistake; love that Alaska is "not any farther than he is willing to travel," and that "he sure knew what he was looking for." Don't know what Ennis is thinking, though, or how, when, where Jack will find him. Hope there is no Alma the Second up in Kenai. Many, many thanks, glaenconer!

Maybe it is silly of me but I just love that it was Ennis who makes the first overture to reconnect.

I just love your way with words, I keep saying that but it's so true.

"his welcome worn so thin he could see theholes in it."

Great line!

Found you again, found you flawless, as before. I'm awed at your ability to paint a picture with as few words as Annie Proulx. Knock'em dead words; loving this! Judy

So north to Alaska it is.

I'm still worried about Fertile Myrtle...erm, I mean, Lureen, turning up preggers. Sigh.

Looking forward to whatever you've got for us next, as always!

Great twist to have Ennis making contact, and I'm glad Jack holds no grudges. My favourite image this time is;

thought that for a man who showed signs a growin roots whenever he settled Ennis had tumbled a long way.
Perfect...
I'm glad they won't be apart too long,
Thanks
Kate
