Whoa!! That sounds very strange. And terribly sad. I'm glad you were able to sustain it for a short while. Your daughter is amazing.
I had a cat who I'd adopted once- she was a stray. I ended up having to put her down as she had Feline Leukemia. I only had her for about 2 weeks before I took her to the vet to see what the problem was. I was extremely sad to have to put her down so quickly after inviting her into my house. But I had the strange sense too that I had provided the best life she'd known during her final days! It was such an emotional roller-coaster.
I've lost far too many cats with FELV...my dad resued a pregnant stray...we (much later) found out that she was FELV+, and her entire litter? contracted in-utero. lost one cat that had been vaccinated in addition to the two we took in, and got to watch my parents lose the two they kept and eventually the mom...FELV=teh lame. :(
