Kurt/Blaine, Depression, Loneliness TW: Suicidal thoughts, possible character death, self-harm
anonymous
November 28 2011, 20:55:16 UTC
Blaine gets really depressed in his senior year without Kurt at McKinley with him, whether it's due to bullies or his family or something else is up to the filler. Eventually, it gets too much for Blaine and he tries to kill himself. He can be found by whoever, but survives, and whatever happens here is also up to the filler. Anyways, Kurt finds out and comes back from New York/wherever he went after he graduated and takes a year out to help Blaine recover from his severe depression and any possible side effects from his attempt. Maybe Blaine tries again later, or self harms himself, but Kurt finds him and helps him.
Basically, Blaine is suicidal due to depression and loneliness without Kurt at McKinley and Kurt takes a year out to help him through it.

They stay like this, lying together, for hours - not really touching, just being close. They talk a little, but mostly stay silent, just taking comfort from each other’s presence, breathing the same air. Blaine feels like it would be perfect if only it wasn’t their last time like this. Still, he takes in as much as he can, if only to remember it later.
When it’s time to go, Kurt hesitates briefly before leaning in to kiss Blaine on the lips. The kiss is soft and chaste, and tastes like goodbye.

Kurt boards the plane with a heavy heart that evening, everything pulling at him to stop, to stay instead. Knowing that he can’t really do anything for Blaine now doesn’t change this, and neither does the deeply ingrained sense of responsibility that tells him he needs to be back in school tomorrow. Being a responsible almost-adult sucks sometimes, he concludes bitterly

On Monday evening, just as Kurt is walking back to him dorm, his feet killing him after all day of work, the phone vibrates in his pocket. Blaine. At last. He sounds sad and tired, and Kurt’s heart clenches at this as Blaine shares the news: he’s out of hospital, diagnosed with depression. He will have therapy three times a week for now and if it doesn’t work, they may consider medication later. And no school for now, at least not till after the New Year’s

I was surprised they didn't start him on medication already - I guess the meds are more risky with teenagers, but inpatient treatment seems the least risky time to start them. Not that I'm a psychiatrist or anything.
And Blaine, I know you're depressed, but don't make me mad by being an asshole to Kurt, okay?

Blaine didn’t expect anything pleasant from the week at the mental hospital; he saw it as something to survive and promptly forget about, just like that time he had his tonsils taken out. But it turns out to be much more of a challenge. Right from the first day he dislikes the place; the feeling intensifying by the hour

Oh, honey.....I am so glad he realizes he doesn't want to be in a drugged haze - that is SO IMPORTANT, because it means he wants to live and not be a shell.....
But his feelings of worthlessness are so profound....was that really judgement in her eyes, or is he just so sure he doesn't matter that he thiks he sees it?
Oh, my poor bb......he matters SOOOOO MUCH!
(And again, I'd like to ask for your hand, because this is just exquisitely beautiful amidst all the PAIN)

Okay, so I'm a little weird I guess in that I rather like mental hospitals and that they are a refuge from the craziness of life and all the people outside who don't get it and keep trying to change you. It makes me sad that this isn't the experience for Blaine, that he feels like people there think he's fucked up and that they're not really trying to help him at all. I'm hoping he finds someone to connect to on the nursing or social work staff - that's the good thing about these places; even if you hate your therapist, there are plenty of other professionals around who may offer a different perspective.

The following days only confirm his conviction. There are three other people after suicide attempts on the ward and their stories shared during the group therapy, as well as their stares than he feels every time he turns his back, make Blaine feel deeply ashamed and even more worthless. People have so much worse problems than his; what right does he have to bother anyone with his silly trouble? To take space, time and money that could have been put to better use helping others

;__; This one has been the hardest of all for me to read....drawing within himself to hide the pain is the WORST thing he can do.....oh god, you're killing me with this.....
