Kurt wakes up the same way he has for the last three months, his husband pressed close to him with a hand cupped protectively over Kurt's pregnancy-swollen belly. Once he starts stirring, his husband wil wake up to, kiss his cheek or shoulder or throat, whatever's nearest, and then set up and bend down to kiss his belly playfully.

It would be idyllic. If only Kurt had chosen this marriage. If only his husband weren't David Karofsky.

Over the next week, Dave barely looks at him. They only have sex once, several hours after the confrontation, and it’s as if Dave is just going through the actions, fucking him because he can, to establish that the real Kurt is weak, secondary, and cannot resist. The rest of the time, he barely touches him. There are no morning or goodnight kisses, no running of hands over Kurt’s belly. The listing of baby names grinds to a complete halt. Kurt becomes an artefact, a slight bump in the wall. Blink and you’ll miss him

What a terrifying twist here, especially because Dave's seeming indifference could have so many different causes, including getting bored with him or thinking over the pregnancy and deciding he doesn't want Kurt or a baby.

Kurt's realization that his death at Karofsky's hands is virtually inevitable is so chilling.

Without resorting to any kind of gore or depicting an actual rape, you keep raising the bar on how scary this is. Brava!

Thank you! I have been on the fence about how graphic to make this, and I seem to be veering towards understatement for the darker themes. I have very little experience in graphic gore and rape writing, so I suppose this story will be an evolution for me as well. (Not in the sense that it will get hugely graphic, but just in that I'll be able to toy with what is effective and what isn't.) :)

This was supposed to be up yesterday, but work fell apart, and then I obsessed over whether I was setting things up properly for the future, since this is short, but significant. Oi, vey.

The music swells around him as Kurt steps forward. Sunshine peeks around the marquee’s entrance. The figure ahead is still distant, but Kurt’s heart is already swelling because this, this, is what happiness is. This is love

I don't know what this is leading into, even though I can kind of guess that Dave is drugging Kurt, but it's definitely keeping up that sense of wrongness and foreboding.

Kurt is staying so strong in keeping his sense of identity despite everything, when he has to balance his identity against his literal survival every moment.

You're right about the drugging (couldn't help myself with the poppies, I grew up on The Wizard of Oz). That was essentially what I wanted to nut out here - the wrongness of this forced gender role he is undergoing, and how his strength continues, but, as is hinted at the end, is waning. :)

This part probably contains the biggest hint to date about the impending climax of Dave's time with Kurt, but is dependent on how well you know your childhood nursery rhymes. ;) (Research into opium tells me Kurt's reaction is indeed possible.) As always, enjoy!

A low whistle stirs Kurt. The note climbs, cycles in an endless loop of someone who doesn’t really know to keep in tune. Probably Finn, Kurt thinks idly. Any second now he’s going to burst - forgetting to knock, as usual - and ask for pancakes. He rolls over. Maybe if he buries his head further under the pillow he can pretend not to hear. Gaaaah! You're scaring me even more here, and that last line is so ominous. Getting only glimpses of what Dave is doing is so horrifying, you're so good at hinting at what's happening and ratcheting up the suspense even more that way.
