He served a dark and a vengeful God

I just got to see the Tim Burton production of Sweeney Todd (my Secret Santa at work gave me a movie pass for my local theater).

Bottom line, I thought it was excellent :-)

I thought the casting of the movie was absolutely perfect, and very different than the usual casting choices.

The only better version I've seen is the one on Broadway right now. The concept behind the Broadway one is that all the characters are in an insane asylum together. They sit in rows, all semi-medicated and twitching, and they do double duty as the orchestra and the actors. When it's their turn to tell part of the story they stand up and act it out, then go back to the insane asylum orchestra. Toby is the lead storyteller of the pack. It's haunting and beautiful.

I love how Tim Burton wasn't afraid to make the movie an outright horror. I want to see it again!
