Insofar as organ transplants are given first-come first-served, this isn't a choice anyone ever makes in the US at least, here is a list anyway.
1. scientist, AIDS cure will save the most people 2. surgeon, will save/help more people than the others but less than the scientist 3. teacher, has two dependents 4. waitress, supports family, presumably not totally dependent upon her income 5. musician, music is good 6. pregnant woman 7. priest, catholic, so he would presumably give up the heart to the pregnant woman
I had this project in my oral comm class. I suggested either first come or random selection, but since the purpose of the project was for us to decide as a group, i just made a few criteria and applied them:
life expectancy of patient patients dependants (and as a tiebreaker/minor point) expected contribution to society
if you like i can send you the paper i wrote on it.
as nicole well knows, i hate this exercise b/c the only conclusion you come to is that your classmates are morons and the world as we know it will surely crumble if there are the people who are supposed to make important decisions in the future. personally, i pick: 1. scientist- no more AIDs= good 2. surgeon- we need doctors and such; save lives, etc. 3. teacher- we REALLY need teachers and he has dependants 4. pregnant woman- assuming she survives the operation and that her baby is born healthy, she will have a dependant and she (as there's no mention of a husband/boyfriend) will be the sole provider 5. waitress- family needs her 6. musician- young w/ a promising life 7. priest- is SUPPOSED to be unselfish and ready to go to GOd, blah, blah, blah
