India was viewed for very long by the west as a romantic and exotic destination. In the last decade this perception has changed to some extent with India taking centre stage as a potential growth engine. With the Mumbai terror attacks and the global slowdown hitting India it has quickly become the microcosm of much of what we have to deal with ( Read more... )

I feel very sad for the people and businesses in Mumbai since these obvious attacks on westerners will slow down the prosperity they were beginning to enjoy.

On a personal level, there were some annoying interactions for our small business as we were contacted about our Dell lease from someone handling our account in India who could barely speak English. They would call us before the due date every month before the payment was due and ask us to make it by credit card. When I asked where they were from, the person hesitated and said, India. This is one of the results of outsourcing.

I think the growth potential still significantly outweighs the risks. Sufficiently rich companies (which will include all Western investors together with many domestic firms) will be able to employ private security firms to help protect their premises from terrorist attacks. With regard to the global slowdown, if anything firms will be looking to increase outsourcing so as to cut costs in a difficult market.

very good.....and very true. Human beings can take care of one another......they don't, but they can.

Greed cannot be confused with need....It is just the type of person and how they view their condition. It is time to 'just take care of your neighbor'....sounds so simple, and it is....if everyone does it. Otherwise, people will continue to suffer and we should be so ashamed....mimi

How do you view the interplay of risk and a growing market zul123 December 11 2008, 04:22:41 UTC
India has to change the thinking of the Imams which are in Pakistan to invite them to India and make them mix with the Imams from India and than work on the way of teaching the Kids from both countries to interact. As for the growing market the sky is the limit to what India can offer to Asia, Middle East & Africa.
