Feedback poll! And Spartan whinery.

Have you ever received feedback for a fanwork (fic, art, icon, wallpaper, etc) that you've posted on LJ?
Ask your friends to take this poll! Inquiring minds (aka my mind) needs to know this stuff...for no reason.

Interesting poll :D! I've seen some people say they would never just respond to feedback with a simple "Thank you :)." because they feel that is dismissive, or something- and feel every reply they give should be unique.

Personally I try to respond to every comment I get. I understand not responding when you get a HUGE number of comments- but I don't always get feedback that lets me say much more than "Thank you." I am never ashamed of simply saying that. I went people who review to know that I saw their comment and I was grateful!

It's true! I try to respond accordingly, like. If I get 'Wow great!', there's not really much I can chat about, so a simple thank you is all I feel I need to say.

That said - my lack of feedback in antiship totally doesn't mean that I'm not looking because I AM and I've been dutifully sending the links to interested friends ahaha. That one of Kon/Tim in the car? I think I wanted to die of joy when I saw it. It appealed to both my Tim/Kon love, my car sex love and my Supernatural love HOW CAN YOU BE SO AMAZING?!

*breathes* Okay, I'm calm again. *MWAH*

I wish I could make the Kon/Tim straw one into an icon. But I'm icon-stupid. But SO CUTE. ARRR.

Awww! Don't worry honey, I know you are really busy right now, and there is no need for you to comment religiously. You always leave such nice comments - I'm still floating on the happy glow from the last one you left me ;).

I'm glad you are enjoying the T/K stuff :D It's so much fun to draw. So I am glad people are liking it!

David Wenham is really hot.

oops back to the poll. my only peeve with positive feedback is when someone replies to someone else's comment and they have a huge conversation back and forth on my post. It's like, hey can you take that outside please?

David Wenham is so totally hot! Mmm, Daisy.

And yes! That's a really good one, I totally agree. I don't mind as much if it's a conversation that's kind of in context to the subject matter of my art, but if it's just a discussion about icon-love then I'm like ARGH. Stop filling up my inbox with stuff that doesn't concern me!

If there's specifics in the fb the I reply to them, and if it's just "omgyay!" or whatever, then I just say "thanks" ;)

My ideal public fb (ie, livejournal) is specific praise about what they liked, whether it was technical, aesthetic, emotional, or whatever. I don't mind concrit but once a story or picture is posted on lj, I'd rather hear it in a private setting -- it's a bit too much like being corrected in front of the class, y'know? Typos being the exception, as everyone has those and I'd really, really rather someone told me. Heh.

So, while I love things like beta comms and whatnot for crit, I'd prefer that if a feedbacker's got useful advice on a posted story or art, it come to me in an email where I can ponder it without that extra public-humiliation annoyance. Plus, in my experience, aside from typos very little crit given in lj comments is actually specific enough to be constructive *cough*

I agree. After all, what's there to discuss about 'omgyay!' *grin*

So when you post your fanworks, do you think it's relevant to include your fb policies in your Notes? Like: "I welcome concrit - but please email me at..."

I know what you mean about getting concrit publically in a non-beta forum. I always feel like everyone else afterwards reads that crit and then totally sees the problem and then is all like "Oh, I thought it was good, but now I see that it's not really." *lol* Which I guess isn't really a bad thing, but still. You know what I mean! *snuggles*

You know, I never really have... once I stopped posting to e-lists, I stopped putting a feedback policy on posts. The problem is, with all the review!wank lately, I feel like it'd only encourage the wankers to come along and nitpick just because you'd asked them not to.

And yes, that's it exacty! If one person is discerning enough to think, say, Snape's OOC or that you've got a lighting problem over by Harry's left thigh, then everyone after that is going to see it and be all, oh, yeah, I guess that's true, how lame. Hahahaha we're all so insecure! ♥

I pretty much agree with everything in this comment!

I appreciate all feedback, even if it is only a "love this!" or something else small and succient. I think a lot of people don't click the reply button when they read/look so anyone who does gets a reply from me. :) I just appreciate that they did!
Having said that, I do get much more joyful when someone tells me what it was they liked about it. And if I actually get some concrit, well I'm ecsatic! I always try to give more than just a "thank you" for those who leave longer comments and let them know I am grateful that they did.

anyway, interesting poll...

I agree - it really does take a lot for people to hit that "Post a comment" link! I know, because I've read/seen fanwork but didn't leave fb for whatever reason, so I know many other people do the same thing with my art.

I get a total kick out of discussing with people who leave feedback. Sometimes it's a great way to meet new people on LJ too, so yay!

How much fb I realistically hope for depends on the fandom/content of my story. I know I'll get fewer comments for a Wilby Wonderful (what?) than for an SGA story, for example.

Hey, that's a good point! Silly of me not to take in into consideration since I'm all about the multi-fandom. You speak the truth, my friend.

As a total non-sequitor - you are crazy about Due South, am I correct? XD

She is, so as a good friend you should quickly draw her a dS pressie!
