Feedback poll! And Spartan whinery.

Have you ever received feedback for a fanwork (fic, art, icon, wallpaper, etc) that you've posted on LJ?
Ask your friends to take this poll! Inquiring minds (aka my mind) needs to know this stuff...for no reason.

YET ANOTHER POLL ABOUT FEEDBACK! )

On fb... thete1 September 21 2006, 20:23:16 UTC
I almost always *live* for fb focussing equally on the technical, aesthetic and emotional good points, but, well, there's a very important-to-me minority of my stories in which I'm *only* looking for technical/aesthetic fb, and an even more important (and *tinier*) percentage of my stories where I'm all about "did you feel this? I NEED YOU TO FEEL THIS ZOMG ( ... )

*eee* Your icon. Lurve.

I know how you feel (hahah! ohhh, bad Lori) about needing people to feel it! Yes! The irony being that usually the bits 'o artwork I need people to feel are the ones they all mildly enjoy...and then I post something I don't really care about and I get all the emotional feedback and I'm like "weh?" But in a good way. *grin*

Now, since it's you and I've given you feedback in the past? I wanted to ask this because I've seen other people mention it: how do you feel about receiving fb for fics you've done in the not-recent past?

t's important that we *call* it 'feed'back

HEY! I love that! *wondrous* I never even thought of that. You are so smrt.

Oh! And speaking of pre-readers, what do you think about constant feedbackers (who leave good fb) versus new-to-you feedbackers (who also leave good fb)? Do you differentiate between the two? Or is all fb from anyone on equal plane?

*ahahhaa* Yes. I was *shocked* at the amazingly high (for me, in DCU) response to the last story I wrote. I mean, it's so cracky and gratuitous. Tim! As Batgirl! Running around being Batgirl-and-Robin with Jason! I mean, it wasn't even *porny*. Then again, of the stories of my own which are most emo-id-tastic, very few of them are as *light* as that Jason/Tim thing. Hmm. Have you found there to be a difference in how people respond to your broodier/darker work vs. your 'big warm huggens!' work?

Now, since it's you and I've given you feedback in the past? Seriously, it's less of an issue now since I've been in one fandom for ( ... )

I do a mix of replies depending on what the fb was and who posted it. If it's someone I know well, I'm more likely to go off on tangents or be silly rather than stickin' to fb on fb XD And of course there's the gradient on fb. As mentioned by others, "what's there to discuss about 'omgsocute'?"

But lately, I only have time to read and maybe to rush reply ;_____; I suck bunches.

DUDE! Did you parents receive your package yet??!! It's started to get chilly and cool here and I just keep thinking about you sans jean jacket and biting my nails...I really hope it got to them, ack!

And yay tangents! I know what you mean, I totally do that too, because I know that with them I can get away with playing the fool, ahaha.

You don't suck at all! It's interesting - there are some fanartists on my flist who don't always reply to the feedback individually, but in a separate post always say something like "I don't have time to reply to each comment, but thank you so much everyone! etc etc" and personally, I find that just as satisfying as if they replied to me (unless, of course, I asked a question or left super-long fb). Damn, I totally should have asked how other people feel about 'replying' that way!

NO WAY! In fact, I am incredibly happy that someone I know is going to possibly meet him, because hey. If I can't do something cool? At least one of my friends should do it. Then I can live vicariously through them instead of some doofus stranger who probably doesn't even deserve to meet David Wenham, ahahah!

You totally deserve it! I hope you're able to!

I hate feedback that focuses on the fandom and ignores the actual piece of work ie: "omg draco is stupid hahaah i love the harry potter books!"

*giggles* I totally agree with you. And the best part is that your example is probably verbatim of some actual feedback.

I never know what to say to people like that! It's like, okay. I appreciate that you took the time to hit 'Post Comment' after seeing my art, but...wtf do I say to your random comment that has NOTHING TO DO with what I posted? People like that are so confusing. And possibly 10 years old. Crazy random kids!

You don't really get that on LJ, do you? It sounds like ff.net feedback! Bummer. Either that or I've been really lucky. I've never gotten that level of ... well, feedback's almost not the word, is it?

I'm happy for anything I get. I would really love concrit, but never get it. hrmpf.

The only thing that drives me crazy in fb are the backhanded compliments. Like "this is good for [insert pairing here]"

It's like "wow, this doesn't smell to bad for dog shit." meh.

someone else mentioned the random conversations that happen between people (i.e. zomg icon love!) yeah. that's annoying.

and ahahahhaha I checked one page on how much fb I hope for, but really I don't think I've ever gotten that much. Maybe once or twice. half a page and I'm ecstatic.

Maybe you don't get concrit because the things you write are ALL PERFECT LIKE YOU OMG LOVE!!!

No seriously!

Well, seriously, I do't really crit writing. Most of the fic I read are my authors I know and love and trust already, so I usually just accept their writing.

Backhanded compliments are always a grey area for me. Like, I totally get what you mean by your example; so, what if it was worded differently? Like "I don't usually read/like [so-and-so pairing] but your fic was really good!" Are both examples one and the same?

Arrgh random conversations are the WORST. I think that's one of my major pet peeves for sure. XD

hahahahahha. you're too sweet darlin'. but actually I think part of what you say is exactly why I don't get concrit I'M PERFECT because most of my fb comes from friends. oh well.

and yes, if it were worded the way you put it, it would be fine. I actually haven't run across it in a while, but back in popslash, where pairing automatically determined a stories worth (and no I don't even bother writing in HP *g*) it was semi-common.
