He ducks inside with some hesitation; he's never been one for honoring rules, yeah, but this one is ingrained since they were kids. The day some mom had told him he was too tall to go inside had been the worst day of his young life, worse than monsters and blood. It meant Sam separated from him by a length of mesh, and a plastic sign that listed an arbitrary number of inches as the measure of when Dean could no longer stick by his brother. This was no-man's land ( ... )

It seems very fitting of them at this point - not alright in a general sense, but alright because they're okay with each other. Anyway, I loved it!

OMG, OMG, OMG! (What? I'm allowed to read short little comment fic before I finish writing, it is not cheating in any way.)

This is so sweet and funny and sad! Flailing!squid!Sam, and wee!Dean separated from wee!Sam when he got too tall for the play space! And Sam being flashbacked by the ballpit!

I think I love you.

YES ALLOW ME TO ALLOW YOU TO PROCRASTINATE! I wasn't sure where to go with this, and then I had this ridic idea and britomart_is made jokes about it which inspired me to actually write it. At first, the kid was going to save Sam, only to have Dean come in and go "No one saves my brother but me," and shoves Sam back into the ball pit. But I thought that would be a little traumatizing, so I changed it.

This is the best story I have ever read about Sam drowning in balls.

(Oh oh oh and the PATHOS of wee!Dean separated from Sam by mesh and a growth spurt!)

I still enjoy your poem that went something like "Sam drowns in balls....something" Seriously, that was the worst moment of Dean's young life - worse than monsters under his bed and worse than eating his vegetables if there was ever a time someone tried to force that on him.

I felt a strong, unexpected surge of sympathy for Dean, when I read that.
