And, on a related note, I try to talk to people on the subway all the time. The only ones willing to engage are males that are either of a certain socio-economic class and always ask me, within five minutes of meeting me, if I "ever date [insert their racial identification here] guys."
Occasionally, someone who's emigrated here will talk to me, but that's about it. Everyone else is too plugged in.
