And came out of it with a LOATHING for air-soft guns. I LARP to be part of the magic, not to end up with a fat lip. hatehatehate airsoft. and dislike actual combat almost as much.

Escape the irritation of a job, the boringness of daily tasks, and the overwhelming crap the world likes to throw at me.
Besides, in RP I can usually make a difference, and sometimes even change things for the better. Try doing THAT in the real world without a permit!

It's about seeing change, about being able to impact A world. and you can't convince me that it's doesn't add value to you, as a person, to have had these experiences where you could affect change, watch somebody's position shift, move their boundaries without a permit. You might not see it, and it might not have been as profound for you as I've seen it in some of our players, but I'm willing to bet it's there.

But I also submit that I have a prejudice against the word
"escapism", because it makes the whole enterprise sound like a
weird addiction for losers instead of just an enjoyable break
in the routine.
