Another Random Update by Yours Truly

Y'know, it might be a good thing I don't live with parents anymore, or someone who will ask, at the end of the day, "So, what'd you do today?"

"I spent the afternoon reading up on the Mormon church."

And the uncomfortable stares before someone announces dinner is ready.

Mmmm, dinner.

I've been thinking of doing that myself! What prompted the read?

I picked up a book from the community book table in a break room at work, called Wives and Sisters by Natalie R. Collins, and despite that I rarely anything like a "book" anymore (I always say, "if it doesn't scroll past my screen, I don't read it") but the cover and story synopsis has a very "My Sweet Audrey" feel to it. So, well, what the heck, I thought, I'll browse ( ... )

I've been considering doing some research because I started watching that show on HBO "Big Love" which is about a polygamist Mormon family. They don't spend a lot of time explaining things, they just go through as if the audience is smart enough to either know or figure it out if they don't. So, since I'm not educated, I'm gonna have to figure it out. :D

The show has mentioned the garment thing a couple of times, so I knew about it. Now you've got me wanting to read the book.

Heh, well, I don't know that I'd start with this book as any real insight into Mormon religion and culture (and it is absolutely about culture as much as religion from what I can tell). I mean, it might be a easy introduction perhaps. I haven't gotten that far into it when I diverged and went straight to the web.

A couple websites I ran across today you might want to look at (and hopefully no one will get pissed off about this but, hey, I'm a heaten, I accept that).

www.exmormon.org
http://molelog.molehill.org/blomt/archives/2003/05/mormon_garments.html - that'll take you straight to someone's blog, basically, and straight into a "heated discussion"
www.lds-mormon.com

And, like I said, I'm just barely scratching the surface.
