Yes, I know, but he just two years ago had major surgery on that side collarbone. He was laid up, missed so much work, felt terrible and despondent and depressed. And in pain. I hope this doesn't lead down a similar time frame of a road.
I have been checking out train and plane fares. I will wait and see if he needs surgery. We'll see. I'm supposed to be going up to Portland tomorrow to see my daughter up there, and my sisters, and nieces, and maybe a couple of nephews.
Oh NO! that's terrible. As a cyclist myself, and one who's been injured, I have special sympathy for him. And then as a friend to you, I feel sympathy about how far away you must have felt.
Here's hoping it's quickly healable, and that he's up and running in no time. hugs to all.
and grrrr to that particular driver for not being more careful!
Grrr is right. The paramedics got the driver's info, but we don't know if they got any witnesses. Aaron was and is too focused on the injury at this point to know much about that part or his bicycle. He remembers having the right of way though.
More important, BLAH, another car induced bicycle injury! He was hit a few months ago too, but nothing serious. On that one (a few months ago) he saw it coming and couldn't avoid it, but maneuvered to make it less serious. He says he's sure glad he was going down this hill slower than he normally does, or he would most likely have been completely run over by this pick-up truck.
Drivers really need to be so much more aware of bicyclists and pedestrians who share the road with them.
He has a broken shoulder blade, on the same side that he broke his collarbone, the left. And he's a lefty. waah.
Yes, horrible. I count my blessings that it wasn't worse. I feel and felt so helpless. Especially calling his friends and getting only voicemail boxes. Eventually we got a response from his two closest friends.
Anyhow, he has a broken shoulder blade and will call is specialist today.
Me too. After he knew food was on the way, and with his two youngest sisters providing telephone entertainment, the strain in his voice seemed to ease up some. I have yet to talk to him this morning.
Yes, it was/ is very tough! I felt so helpless. Telephones are sure a blessing at times like that. We even had a couple of family conference calls, and that at least seemed to help lift his spirits a little while he was waiting.
Thanks for your well wishes Scott. I hope your current journey is as peaceful as possible.
Yesterday was a bad day for bike injuries -- my husband got a bungee cord to the face and broke one of his front teeth in half, which seems pretty minor compared to breaking a shoulder blade!
Ouch, maybe minor in comparison, but not minor at all really. What a shock that must have been for him. Yikes. And now, off to the dentist or the dental surgeon. How do you take care of a broken in half front tooth? Will he have to get a crown? Or an implant? I'm so sorry. Things can change in an instant, can't they?
He spent yesterday afternoon at the dentist and now has a big plastic filling -- very convincing-looking, at least. Fortunately it didn't hit the nerve, so no root canal.
Well that’s good that it didn't hit the nerve. I pictured this big front tooth cut in half right across the middle. *giggle* I apologize for giggling at his hurt and inconvenience, but I'm giggling more at the current heights of my imagination. I've got to rein that baby in.
Hopefully that filling will serve your husband well for some good long time. I chipped a front tooth in a bicycle accident as an adolescent, when I swerved out of the way of an approaching car, hitting my mouth on the curb. I forever had troubles with that tooth, but it was already a problem tooth. I forgot about that bike incident. I'll have to tell my son about it next time we hash over bike injuries. I was twelve or thirteen. I also sprained the three fingers that I used to cushion my head as I fell. No helmets back then. Well, I should go eat my lovely leftovers from yesterday's feast and at least pretend to look at my "to do" list.

I hope the damage isn't as bad as the hurt would indicate. Distance is awful.
