Hooray for Thrift Stores!

I attempted one more time to hit the Thrift Shops in search of options for a Victorian Outfit.
Apparently if you are looking for a Victorian Men's outfit you should shop in the Women's Department at the Thrift Shops!

I found....
Pants: $5
Vest: $6
Jacket: $8
Shoes: $10

Sweet! Add a top hat and white gloves from the costume store and there you go! ( Read more... )

Um, wow... you did a great job! He looks amazing. Tell him to wear this regularly. He look cool and if you added a bit of shiny metal to it, he'd totally be steampunk. :)

You can always try JoAnns for buttons. They have sales all the time. And google a JoAnn's coupon and you can usually find one for 40% off one item.

You could also use a little spray starch to stiffen the collar (it washes right out) and then turn it up and wrap an ascot (any longer scarf will work) around it to help keep it up and tie it in front. voila

if you have a heavier chain necklace you could use it to simulate a watch chain on the vest front.

I love costumes. Last year I took a ivory prom dress bought for pennies off the clearance rack and turned it into Cleopatra for my college student.
She won a prize (isn't that the way it goes, the Mom does the work, the kid gets the credit!)

have fun with this!

You know, there was a long black scarf at the thrift store yesterdayfor $3. I may just go back after it if it is still there today. His shirt is a tuxedo shirt so the collar is already pretty stiff. Right now in the pic I used a pair of hubbies black socks for the effect. =)
