While working with jalapeno peppers, always remember to wear gloves. This is especially important for those of us who wear contact lenses.

I learned this lesson the hard way. More important than wearing gloves is actually to not rub your eyes at all, because rubbing them wearing gloves is just as bad. You may still risk blindness for an undeterminable period of time.

My pain came from putting in my contacts the morning after handling the peppers, but your advice is sound as well.
