There's a mainstream kernel driver, but I haven't tried it in years. It used to be full of warnings about sketchy write support, but seems not to be anymore. I'm skeptical, but if it's just music, give it a try (feel free to bring the HD here and back it up first). I'm baffled by the lack of wma converters, but ISTR that you're right.
they have one program with iffy reviews; i'll check it out this weekend and see what happens. i tend to use downloads.com for all of my random utility program finding, but that turned up nothing. thanks!
It can work on a Mac--I did this back in 2003 or 2004, but it could have been before I wiped my HD and I may not have the program. I'll check later this week.
I've had really good experiences with the HFS+ driver, but that was on a ppc, not an x86, and I don't know whether that might still make a difference (it did at one point, but I don't think it does anymore).
I think EasyWMA was the program I used to convert my wma files to mp3 on OSX. And if converting somehow fails, you can download Windows Media Player for OSX.
they seem to want $10, but i will keep that in mind. i would definitely much rather re-dl these songs (some are of questionable quality anyway) than install wmp on either computer.
The people who code mplayer are obnoxious twits not the most mature software developers. Friends who have or have tried to fix bugs in it have told me that the code is a disaster, and I know for a fact that they frequently don't check releases for endianness issues.
