Misdirection

So I just saw a group on facebook bashing Che Guevara. Now I have nothing against bashing Senor Che; he wasn't exactly a pleasant human being. What I have a problem with is the so-called righteous indignation of Americans over murder and violence around the world. An excellent point. However, for the record, having dealt with far too many a Che-t-shirt-sporting student, who had absolutely no clue who Che was or what he did (for good OR ill--I'm talking complete ignorance here, simply wearing the shirt because it was "cool" and supposedly represented their dissatisfaction with America/democracy), I feel justified in being in this group. :) At the same time, I'm sure many of the group members also simply believe that, as Americans, they are simply better/smarter/whatever than everyone else. Sigh.

Perhaps the misdirection is at fault all around--those who proclaim Che a hero point out how horrible other regimes were, while glorifying their supposed saint, much as his detractors cover up their own sins.

lol. Amen to being against annoying t-shirts. :)

for the record, I did see the group on my minifeed because you joined, but I definitely did not think you were among the annoying and ignorant. You're too smart for that. :)
