Tropical Storm Bonnie is bearing down on the Florida Panhandle and Tropical Storm Charlie has already forced the evacuation of all non-residents in the Florida Keys from Key West to Key Craig.

Some of my imagery...

Is there any possibility of the two storms colliding? And what would happen if they did?

Clearly, it'd be the perfect storm, thus prompting fishermen to go out too far to sea, and die ignominiously ; )

Can you use your top secret hurricane laser directing device to make them both converge on Melbourne, FL? I'd be much obliged. I want my little brother to be evacuated up to Chantilly, VA, so I can visit him and get him good and hungover.

Check with Pat Robertson. If he can pray a hurricane out to sea, he should be able to do this little favor for you. ;)

It's amazing what the power of bigoted Virginians can do.

I'd put in a call to Lynchburg and look up a certain Rev. Falwell, too.

I'd prefer they hit Melbourne, Australia, but that's a bit of a long haul even for G-12.

Hurricanes are named alphabetically if I recall. They used to be female names only, but that's since changed.

Yet, we know you three as GOES-9, GOES-10, and GOES-12.

That seem right to you?

Names for cyclones in my area have included Alby, George, Vance and Orson. I can understand Orson, Mork's boss, but the other names don't exactly inspire fear and loathing. In my part of the world cyclones are named alphabetically, but alternate between male and female.

Mind you, it's been a _very_ long time since they were all named after women.

As far as I know, it's been a long time since they weren't named alphabetically as well.

The GOES satellites have letter designators before they're put into orbit. So 9 was J, 10 was K, and 12 was M. I think of them as Jim, Kay, and Michelle.

It is always Tropical Storm Bonnie or Tropical Storm Charley or Tropical Storm Billy Jim Bob. Why is it never Tropical Storm Nadezhda or Tropical Storm Sergei or Tropical Storm Evgeny?

Perhaps if Russia has its own hurricane alley, they'll get to name their own. Now back to work, you!

It's obviously capitalist influence, comrade. Perhaps in the Workers Paradise of Cuba they name the storms for heros of the Revolution.
