one more year

I have my job for at least another year. The city got it's grant award amount and the planning council voted on the decision of where to spent it. So, that's good news. The down side is I know Ryan White funding is on a downhill slide and there isn't going to be case management jobs forever. I am ok with it though, because what people mostly ( Read more... )

Brenda, I KNOW you are one of the good ones and it doesn't matter to me where you go to church or if you do or don't. In spite of my negative feelings most days about organized religion (of any sort), they more often than not do provide easy vehicles for "giving." And that is never a bad thing.

Bless you for your goodness, friend. And I'm glad you have some job security for the next year at least. Your kind will always be desirable though. The great sin is that social workers and like people who work with their minds, first driven by their hearts, don't make a boat load of money.

Brenda-

You're fantastic, lady. You don't need church to do good things for others. There are lots of volunteer organizations out there you can be a part of without feeling smothered by Christian elitism. Many people I know have left the church for the same reasons, so you are not alone. Just know you are one of the good!

Oh Brenda, I hope that they can still fund the programs. It's heartbreaking to think that people don't acknowledge AIDS as much as they used to. It's still just as bad or worse now than it was 20 years ago.

I hear you about the church thing. We're actually thinking of changing. I believe that what you do for others on a day to day basis is far more important then standing in church on a Sunday. Alot of people think that they can act like assholes all week and then go to church on Sunday to redeem themselves. WRONG! They never think about "What would Jesus do?" They just use it to serve their own purpose. ugh. I think that what you're doing is wonderful and far more important than the "holier than thou" set. You are a true Christian my dear.

People are still getting HIV infection at the same rates as years ago. Many people have gotten very passive about it since people don't die at the same rate as they used to. It's a huge, huge problem.

Brenda, congrats on getting funded as well as finding a church you really like which is often times hard to do. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet up when you came through here on your trip due to the weather/my trip. You'll have to come back when Mayer tours. You'll have a free place to stay if you do :)

Becky--don't feel about about not catching each other in Memphis. It was hard for me too, with 12 other people in tow. I'd love to come back and see Mayer and you! What a combo that would be. :-)
