Chapter 1: Confusion [Video]

[ Alright. So, I've concluded that I'm definitely not in Japan. Or, well, it doesn't really seem like I'm anywhere. Which would mean that Ryuk did in fact kill me and I'm in the realm of the Shinigami. And that means that anyone else that's here must also be a previous user of a Death Note, and they're sharing a similar fate ( Read more... )

Where in Japan are ya from?

[Maybe someone with some sense for a change.]

[ So, ignoring Hattori's disbelief concerning time travel, and assuming that this phenomena is controlled by "the scientists", it seems that they can control how long a person is missing and they can elect to wipe their memory if they seem fit. I would assume that they would wipe the memories of anybody they deem troublesome to their mysterious agenda with this city, but they don't use it strictly to eliminate crime, hence the presence of the grey-texted threats I received. Meaning the reason for this ability is not to keep order but to fuel a potentially more sinister goal. Which puts me at risk if I happen to challenge that goal. Given that most people here are stricken with mania, sloth, or other traits that render them useless to rebuilding the city, I can assume that the goal of the scientists is not to do so ( ... )

I haven't ruled out th' possibility.

These culprits have never revealed themselves, or so we're aware. They could be among us fer all we know. One who claims he isn't a scientist, but has dubiously made attempts to aid us goes by this frequency: withoutturn

He recently made a public announcement statin' out communicators have been upgraded ta reach a longer range. When I confronted him fer answers about it he simply replied with one-word answers. This isn't his first appearance or upgrade ta these devices an' prolly not th' last either.

We undoubtedly have a window of freedom in this containment, but we're also dependent. Th' culprits provide all of th' necessities fer basic survival fer th' town.

[ The scientists living among us, eh? Well, I'll keep this potential scientist in mind.

So it could also be that anyone who is a threat to severing the cities' dependence on these scientists could be punished. Which again puts me at risk if I can get everything working as I'd like, which will still take quite some time by the looks of it. And it also means inevitably I'll have to seek out these scientists and eliminate them. Hopefully we can take advantage of their technology to get us all home, or to turn this place into a utopia. One way or the other, I've got an objective now. ]

So they have the technology to give our devices hardware upgrades remotely? That's already cutting edge from where I stand.

The theory that the scientists live among us is very likely, unless they have access to technology, or power that we cannot easily fathom. And even then, they couldn't keep careful watch over us unless they were right under our noses, could they?

[ Damn. This place is almost making me with that Ryuuzaki were still alive. If he ( ... )

I'm not sure if it's hardware or software that are upgraded, but th' fact that these have networks make them more like computers than actual phones contrary ta th' text an' voice functions. [He was no computer engineer though, so he was still learning his ways around them.]

There are several theories, but none of which can be proven without any evidence. Them being among us seem most likely.

Unless th' citizens themselves start innovatin' independent sources we're at their will.

Which is exactly why it'd be unwise to start acting on the theory that the scientists live among us. Because if we're right, we could get in trouble.

We probably need to find more reliable people to join this investigation, as well as a place where we can meet in relative privacy.

Any conversation after this will have ta be carried out in person. Th' strongest filter I can manage is 55%, 60% if I put in th' effort. Most people can't do higher than 30. [While he could make strong filters, he couldn't break them.] So if ya can conjure up one higher than 60, more luck ta you.

An' ta answer that last statement, I have only spoken ta one other person. I haven't spoken ta many who haven't fallen victim ta some sort of false security or mental illness.

[Oh the irony of his denial about the supernatural though.]

I didn't know you could even lock these conversations. I'll see what I can do with them sometime.

But until then I think finding a discreet headquarters is a good idea.

And do you think they would be helpful on the team?

They aren't full-proof an' there's always a possibility it can be hacked.

There are several abandoned buildings around Discedo that can be utilized.

Of course they are.
