I *loath* every academic establishment on the fucking planet right now. I am a shoe-in for the Evening Degree program at UW (with classes about a mile away from my house)... Except that I didn't finish Algebra II in high school. HIGH SCHOOL

That is just nutty. I'm a little astounded that the college looks at high school transcripts beyond making sure you graduated.

Yeah, I was surprised, too. But that's what they do if you don't already have a Bachelor's (all I have is an AA and a *lot* of credits toward a BA).

Can you test out? At our department you could take a test at the beginning of the semester to skip the course.

There isn't a test available through the Evening Degree program (the program is designed for people who have done all the general ed somewhere else and just want to finish a degree). I imagine there is a test out there somewhere, but figuring that out is the tough part. I don't know academia (hell, I don't even remember much algebra, so I'd need to really work to pass a test on it).

I was really set on the program at UW, but now I feel like I should either just look at getting a certificate in marketing at UW or go somewhere else to get the BA and hope I can get into UW's Masters program anyway.

Thanks. The adviser in the program was really nice about it - she actually suggested I go back to CSU, Chico to see if there might be some way for me to finish my degree through them (distance learning or something). I asked them about it before I started at the Art Institute (so that was roughly 15 years ago) and - as I recall - they told me it'd been too long, that I'd have to re-apply and take whatever classes had changed in the interim. I might call them again just to make sure that's the current protocol, but I think I'm just pretty well fucked on this front.
