Our first house…maybe not

I didn’t want to write a lot about the house until it was a done deal. We didn’t tell most of our friends and family either. Didn’t want to have to go back and say, “never mind, it fell through” if something went wrong. Thursday our banker called to say the final loan approval was all taken care of and it was a go! I'm sorry this has happened to you. I know well the horrors of buying what seems like your dream house, only to have major problems with it. We went through this a few years ago. It's not something I'd wish on anyone.

I hope everything works out, or, if not, that you can get out of your contract.

Thanks. I'm pretty discouraged right now. Hopefully it won't cost too much to replace the pipes and we can still do it.

People buy houses all the time. I know we have bought our share. 9-10 for me.

You can get the inspections, which are necessary, but are not a guarantee against catastrophic, or other failures. Those come with owning a house. Your house, your responsibility.

On the other hand, you can fix it the way you want and make it yours.

I have ended up loving every single house I lived in for one reason or another. It will work out the way it is supposed to, even if you end up with a different house.

We are mortgage free now because we made a couple of very lucky and timely decisions. I am thankful for that.

Man, oh, man. I'd be calling that inspector to let him know the house can't be insured. That quest plumbing got me, too, years ago. It was awful - and it was a new house!!!! They had used it for the water main. My entire front yard and walk caved in. This was when it was still "legal" - and a couple years ago a friend let some fly-by-nights use it in her new bathroom walls against my protests. She will see...

You may be pleasantly surprised by how inexpensive replumbing is. I was.

I hope you're right. I'd like to have this house, but if we can't resolve this we'll have to walk away.
