The new house report

For a while we weren’t sure whether we were going to get this house or not. I may have written about the Quest pipe issue earlier but the long and short of it is 5 insurance companies declined to insure it until the Quest pipe was replaced. We eventually worked out a compromise with the sellers and they had it replaced but the deal was shaky for a ( Read more... )

I’m much more of a Scandinavian design person.

Lucky that you live much closer to an Ikea than I. I've not girded myself for a 6+hr round-trip yet.

Maybe we could do that when we visit.

Thanks for telling us about your new house, and the changes you are making. I never tire of looking at, and hearing about houses.

Smart, Smart, Smart!!! Painting the knotty pine in the kitchen. Trust me when I tell you, knotty pine is not going to make a come back. I hate the stuff. Also, buying new cabinets is so expensive. We (meaning Roy) painted the cabinets in the last two houses we bought and sold. The cabinets helped to sell, not hindered the sale.

We painted all the paneling in the last house we sold also a good decision.

Tile nowadays is not really slick, but carpet is also a good decision. And the new appliances are so worth it. I can not wait til you have time for pictures. Sounds like you are making all the right decisions. Each house we fixed up, we ended up selling, but we did not really do that intentionally. We fixed them up for us.

Yep, we didn't buy this to flip, we bought it to live in. I really hated those cabinets. They sucked up all the light in the kitchen. There were lights over the sink and stove but we thought we would need to put small fluorescents over each of the counters and replace the overhead light with a huge four tube florescent fixture. After we painted, all we did is replace the 2 bulb fixture with a 3 blub one and we had plenty of light. The cabinets are going to need regular touch-ups since they do scratch more easily than I hoped they would but I still like them much, much better. I’ve got paint, I can touch-up ( ... )
