My biggest problem with this whole gas tax increase business is that it's incredibly regressive. Those who make less have to pay out more as a percentage of their income. Worse yet, it's going to fuck over Western MA much more than Eastern. All those billions of dollars that flowed out to Boston for the Big Dig didn't help us out in terms of bulked up public transporation, and folks have to drive long distances to get from anywhere to anywhere else. It's not uncommon for folks who live in Belchertown to have to commute to work at the mall in Holyoke. Hell, I often have to drive over a hundred miles a week in the course of my job. A friend of mine sometimes goes back and forth between Ware and Pittsfield constantly ( ... )
