A Question

Has anyone here travelled on the Eurostar to Paris/Brussels? Do they have a reputation for running to time? Do you have to go through customs/passport control when you arrive back in London? Is it a good service? Just scheming...

We went to Antwerp via Brussels and the train both there and back was ontime. You do have to go through customs. I highly recommend taking Eurostar. It was clean, fast, reasonably priced, and, if you book it the right way, may even afford first class (we did on the return).

What was the train connection to Antwerp? Did you book it through an agent or did you do it online through separate companies? I'm toying between a trip to Vosselaar or Berlin via Brussels...

If you have an Eurostar ticket, you can transfer to any trains travelling in Belgium for free. No advance booking needed. All we did was show the condustor our ticket.

This site has been recommended to my by friends who have used it for European train travel: http://www.seat61.com/Europe.htm

oh so Brussels to Vosselaar would be effectively free?! :O Ooh!

Thanks for the link - that was the one that gave me the idea!

I did it twice last year. Once to Lille and once to Brussels. Both journeys were absolutely problem-free. I don't recall there being any major security hassles. The whole thing was much quicker and easier than going to an airport (which I hate doing) and the journey was very zippy and pleasant.

Brussels (surprisingly) rocks too.
