The first air-raid alert in London was in June 1940. A survey was done in Notting Hill to find our how the area had responded to the siren. 13% of the population had failed to wake up. Of the 83% who did wake up, 17% of men and 3% of women stayed in bed. About 30% of the population of Notting Hill made a cup of tea. -
