Yea me! I finished the gathering of data for our taxes this morning while the California Legislature finally voted to pass a Budget. It was only 106 days late. Sigh! Now the voters will have to decide which of the many measures on the ballot May 19 will pass or fail. Some of them are good ideas (no pay for elected officials until there is a ( Read more... )

I'm impressed with your organization, re: taxes. What's the latest news - will CA send tax refund checks, or are they still hanging on to them? (and how do you like THAT? It's not their money!)

Well, we always end up owing money, so if NJ stops sending refund checks, too, at least I know they're not stealing my money.

It may take a few weeks to get the funds in place but California taxpayers owed refunds will get checks instead of IOUs. We try and manage our pensions and mandatory withdrawals so we get just a small sum back. That way they don't get to use too much of our money for too long.

Our daffodils are blooming, too, and I would love to read a rough draft. For some reason I can't post comments on Phoenixsong (as well as a couple other sites). I worked with the administrators for quite awhile on that until I finally gave up, and just post on lj. So if you post your chapters here, I'll write reviews. ;)

The reason I stopped posting work in progress her is that I was too lazy to do HTML markers for the bold that I put parts copied from the books in. Some people complain about bold anyway.

Oh, I envy your flowers! I'm surprised that with all the rain that they are coming up--but then you must be in slightly warmer climate, too.

I just saw the beginnings of some green peeping through up the drive by our mailbox, but it's been so cold here--I'm surprised to have seen anything at all. We usually don't see any daffodils until at least March. I planted a bunch of new bulbs last fall so I'm really eager to see what happens this spring. We can't have tulips because the deer eat them--but daffodils are wonderful! The deer won't touch them with a 10- foot pole. Love it!

We live in the lower foothills of the Sierras about a half hour up the freeway from Sacramento. Our average high temperature for this week of the year is 63° so it is time for blossoms. I grew up at the beach in Southern California so I get excited when we have frost some mornings in the winter.

Good for you with your taxes. Mike and I resolve to file without an extension this year. We're terrible that way. I wish at least one of us didn't procrastinate.

Congrats on getting so far along on your Ginny story. I hope you enjoy the freedom JKR has given you on Ginny's Seventh Year. Next step - original! :)

I have to keep repeating the Mantra that St Margarets just gave me, 'It is supposed to be fun to write fan fiction.'

I'm afraid I still remember what my second husband always said about books and articles he was just starting, 'You put a sheet of paper in the typewriter and then you sweat blood.' Now, I guess, you look at a blank screen and hope you mind isn't likewise.

I don't know that I'd call them mistakes--more like another way to look at it or a suggestion of another way to say something. True mistakes are so rare in your writing that it would truly make me sit up and take notice. Keep it coming!

Thank you for your kind words but I know full well I make mistakes and you and Bethany tactfully point them out. I really appreciate what you do to help me. Even I think I am getting to be a better writer.
