OMG I definitely see it, mostly bc of you pointing it out. Any who I must say Simon definitely wins!! But I definitely think there's something similar about them, their sadness is definitely there and all the compared images are amazing!
Haven't seen the movie but the similarities are a lot! Carie-Anne!! I fell in love with her since Matrix. And Robiiiiin ♥♥♥ The blond+blue eyes second pic of Simon you chose.. almost made me drool. Gorgeous.
I love how beautifully you combined the images to produce this new, utterly gorgeous and evocative series of WOW.
I love Memento. I'd never thought to compare it with Mentalist, but you're right there are similarities there. Especially on the level where culpability and self/other questions with the killer arise (is Jane like RJ? what exactly happened between Leonard and his wife?).
I think that fundamentally they're both part of the genre of stories where men loses families (particularly female family members) and go out for revenge. In comics this is called "Women in Refrigerators" because it's so over-done. But the fundamental emotional impact of asking what someone would do if they lost so much is a very potent one.
It's just sad that it's usually only men who are placed in the role of avenger.
