It was a good trip, one of so many. Just you and me, zigzagging down the aisles, cartoonish sound effects for every hairpin turn or sudden reversal. You had just started saying hi to strangers, early and often and without prompting. Wonderfully written, and it just made me ache to read it. It would be so hard not to personalize these situations, even when you're doing all you can and it isn't really about you. The heart goes on feeling what the brain tells it to ignore.

The way you wrote this was really great. I don't personally have any intimate experience with someone who has autism and so I couldn't really picture what it might be like besides to just know that it's complicated. I think you did a fantastic job of expressing your personal complexity, as well as your love. Parenting is very challenging, communicating with such young kids is challenging, and then you have an extra barrier to communication that can't be easy ( ... )

Oh! This is heartbreaking and wonderful and joyful and painful and filled to the brim with life and the celebration of all the little gifts it gives. What a gorgeous testament to your son.

I hope you are writing a book, and this is a chapter, because if you aren't, you should be.
