Writers are weird. Anne did her monologue about a crazy chick who claims people only think she's crazy because she can see the truth. Of course, she thinks aliens are sending her messages from god, but I think it's roughly the same principle with writers. They're all psychos because you have to be crazy if you know the truth, or your own truth anyway. People find their truth in different ways, so whatever blows your skirt up.
As to the thing about society not advancing, I don't think it's a problem. A society tends to be an accumulation of its population's flaws, so it'll never be anywhere close to perfect. For society to improve, the human race has to improve, and it's going to take longer than 4,000 years for that to happen.

to the person who commented above me--there's actually a whole religious like group of people who believe that God sent aliens down and aliens are all the saints and the gods, a man named Claude Vorillhon i think made it up, the Raelists are what they're called, and the aliens are the Elohim, and their promised land is in Israel. One day the aliens will come down and take the Raelists and their condoms and drop them all off in Israel
