I never wear a skirt to an interview. Conventional wisdom be damned. it's not who I am, and you can't interview well when you're uncomfortable. And yes, that included interviews in Texas in the late 80's.
Yeah, I think it makes a huge difference not having to worry about it.
Of course, who I am, is someone who has wanted for the past 5 years or so to have a wicked bright orange, red, blue, or green (or hell, all of them) stripe in her hair - but that's just not going to happen working in a law firm. Darn.
After what we've discussed here today, or from what you have seen on my resume, do you have any concerns about me as a candidate that I could address for you at this time?"
that is BRILLIANT. if i had asked that at my interview for the Dream Job, i might have actually gotten the job. (b/c as it turns out, they hired someone based on her proficiency with skill set that they never even asked me about.) i will *definitely* use this in future interviews -- thank you so much for passing the tip along!
I told the recruiter that it was the best job tip advice I have ever gotten. And, truly, I think it impressed the heck out of the people interviewing me.
