So maybe it's a faux pas for someone at work to call me while my mouth is full of blood and gauze, but honestly, it was funny ( Read more... )

For letting me stay awake.

Well, okay, I realized later he'd left a small chunk of a tooth in and I had to go to another dentist up here to get it dealt with.

But that just makes people think he's a bad dentist, not crazy. He's not a bad dentist, actually, but he's like 70 and really ought to retire -_-

Mine came out in chunks. And they had to saw into my jaw bone some to get them out. It was quite an experience, seeing as they did not put me under either. I was pretty numbed out, so there was no pain. But to feel, vaguely, someone sawing away at your jaw? Weird.

Yeah, they had to saw both my bottom ones out in pieces too.....

It's wierd, because reliving the memories in my mind actually physically hurts. I suppose that's just because they're fresh.

I hope.

Yeah, I did the headphone thing when I had to get a cavity filled instead of drugs once, and it worked well for me then (I'm lucky enough to have wisdom teeth that came in in a location and manner that did not require their removal (I also only have 3)).

I hope you feel better soon!

But...but......what happened to the other one?

Glad half of your set can actually work, though... :)

Actually, quite a few people have unusual numbers of wisdom teeth. Most people tend to have fewer, probably because we don't really *need* them anymore (as I recall, wisdom teeth exist because people used to lose teeth all the time, so wisdoms were replacemens...but now we keep most of our teeth, so they're outdated). I know a guy who only had 2.

I vaguely remember knowing someone who had 5 though.

I believe my other one was stolen by pixies. (It's just never showed up, even on x-rays.) It kind of vaguely bothers me that I have an uneven number of teeth, but it would make no sense to get a false wisdom tooth installed, and I'm really not up for teeth-removal unless it's required, so it's not like I'm going to do anything about it.

Hooray for drugs!

Actually, except for the antibiotic (which I'm told is absolutely de rigeur), I've been off them for a bit now. I didn't trust the heavy-duty narcotic painkiller they put me on. It felt just like a hefty after-workout endorphin dose. Then I looked up the neuroreceptor pathways by which a narcotic painkiller works, and figured out why.

So, come to think of it, I'm less in favor of the drugs.
